Ala Ebtekar continues to impress.
Attended the book release event at the San Francisco Center for the Book with gheehappy, pardonmyhindi and lunaspace.
PMH blogs about it here. What he doesn't mention is that Gheehappy walked up to Michael Bartalos (More about him another time because he deserves his own post, fansite and more) and said that he thought he was dead. This when Bartalos was very alive and in fact among other things had completed some amazing work for the California Academy of Sciences.
p.s. If you have the cash, support Ala and the Center by buying the imprint here. It beats buying another one of these.
I attended a SFAC event at Electric Works this weekend and saw a live printmaking demonstration of one of Ala's works.
"His works, including drawing, prints, paintings, and installations, are inspired by a wide range of influences including Persian carpets and miniature painting, historic photographs, Mexican muralists, graffiti and hip hop culture."
Had a brief conversation with Ala about why he was combining these seemingly disparate cultures.
Take a look at his site:

Ala will be featured in an upcoming show at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
